Young Audiences of Minnesota Announces Artist of the Year, Christopher Yaeger, Educator of the Year, Jan Erickson, and Hugh Schoephoerster Award for Excellence in Arts Education, Milkweed Editions.

March 2007

The Jane McCarthy Fund of The Minneapolis Foundation has awarded Young Audiences of Minnesota $7,500 to support a music arts program for students at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind (MSAB). This donation will be used to bring Young Audiences roster ensemble Minnesota Percussion Trio to MSAB in the 2007-08 school year, helping students learn the history of creating music out of found objects, and about how different cultures use found objects in music.

Read, Explore, Create© program draws Starbucks funding and author to read at St. Paul Starbucks. Read, Explore, Create© is offered to local schools through a collaboration between two nonprofit organizations, Young Audiences of Minnesota, which brings artists into the schools, and Milkweed Editions, a publisher of books for kids and adults. The author of one of the books used in the program, John Armistead, will read at the Starbucks on Grand & Oxford in St. Paul on April 12 at 7 pm.

February 2007

Washington Technology Middle School has been named one of nine Saint Paul Public Schools’ Arts for All – Arts 25 program sites for 2006-2007. This Arts 25 project is designed to examine what culture means at Washington Technology Middle School. This program recognizes the value of the arts as a part of academic curriculum and encourages students to explore ideas of identity and culture through school performances, classroom workshops, and a visual art exhibit.

January 2007

Young Audiences of Minnesota is pleased to present Michael Monroe at Cook County Schools with support from Meet the Composer Grant. Over the course of the week, Michael Monroe will introduce students to his unique style of music creation and performance. Three smaller groups of students will also have the opportunity to work closely with Michael to develop, create and perform their own song.

Chelsea Heights Elementary has been named one of the nine Saint Paul Public Schools' Arts for All – Arts 25 program sites for 2006-2007. The Chelsea Heights project includes performances, workshops, and professional development workshops which explore African and African American art forms.

RBC Dain Rauscher has awards Young Audiences of Minnesota support for extended artist residency programs at Anwatin Middle School in Minneapolis for the 2006-2007 school year. This is the third year RBC Dain Rauscher has funded YAMN arts programming at Anwatin, allowing Young Audiences to provide to reach more Anwatin students with our in-depth programs such as Milkweed Edition’s Read, Explore, Create.

August 2006

Jack Cornelius Boys and Girls Club of Minneapolis members will show off their Hip Hop dancing skills for their families and community members on Thursday, August 31st at 6 PM. The National Endowment for the Arts provided funding for this program, allowing Young Audiences of Minnesota to bring arts-in-education residencies to members at three Twin Cities Boys and Girls Clubs.

July 2006


Young Audieces of Minnesota names new Executive Director, Nadine Sehnert. Nadine most recently served as YAMN Program Director. In that role since July 2004, she worked to create new partnership programs, such as Read, Explore, Create with Milkweed Editions.
